What is the Political Courage Test?

Indiana Congressional Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Women's health issues should stay between a woman and her doctor.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
I would like to repeal the tax cuts implemented by George W Bush for people with an income of over $250,000.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Citizens United has given too much political power to the top 1%. Corporations and unions control politics with these large contributions to legislators. This political power needs to return to the hands of the average American, to the people the legislators are actually representing.
Yes Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
Indisputable cases such as Timothy McVeigh require such punishment. However the inherent racism of the prison system, sentences far too many innocent people to death, disproportionately so for minorities. Prisons should be for reformation as the Indiana Constitution states. This is how we can slow down the repeat offender rates. Mandatory drug sentences has forced prisons to release violent offenders early. Substance abuse treatment is the best way to stop drug use not prison, we are locking up way too many people.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
No Do you generally support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Yes, it should be left up to the states to implement reforms to apply for federal grants. I would like the states to give more local control to the school districts.
No Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
Before we build any new pipelines, we need to fix and maintain our current pipelines. We already are exporting far more gas than we are importing, there is no need to change our drilling policies. The Fracking industry has show they need help protecting the environment where they are fracking..
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
97% of scientists believe climate change is manmade. 35,000 de-iced walruses is a significant change, as is the rising oceans. Since the industrial revolution, there has been a large increase in pollution to the environment in the name of progress. Progress has been made with the restrictions in lead fuel, and paint , but, Flint MI shows we have further to go. The Clean Air and Waterway Act has done much to help the environment and Americans health. Resources need to be sustained to last for future generations.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
We need to implement a policy, especially in Indiana, that requires background checks for transferring guns between unknown people. In the February 25th shootings in Wichita Kansas the women who gave him the guns was charged for giving him the guns because the prosecutor assumed she knew he was a felon. I knew some one for 20 years before he told me he had a felony conviction when he was 18.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
The Affordable Care Act needs improvement. However, repealing the ACA altogether would harm the healthcare system and waste taxpayer's money. I'm interested in keeping the positives, such as expanding coverage to low income individuals and ensuring that those with pre-existing conditions cannot be denied coverage. We need to implement solutions for the negative portions of legislation, addressing things like the lack of access to doctors in rural areas. 20 million Americans have got health insurance through this bill. We are at the lowest number of insured ever with 9 out of 10 now insured.
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Undocumented workers should be given legal work status and moved to the rear of the citizenship line. There also needs to be an overall reform for legal immigration as well as more effective border controls.
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
Yes Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
Unknown Position Do you support increased American intervention in Iraq and Syria beyond air support?
Military should only be used as last resort, diplomacy, sanctions, treaties and other methods should be our first and main solution.
No Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
Social Security is set up to be a safety net for those you lost their retirement savings or were not able to save for retirement. I like older Americans being able to live with dignity in their own house as long as they want. Americans should be encouraged to set up their own retirement accounts to help insure that with Social Security and their plans they can have a livable income in their later years.

By stimulating and growing our economy we can tackle welfare issues head on. Raising the minimum wage so that workers working full time do not need government assistance will help lower our welfare costs.
Up to 2 million in inheritance taxes should be free. Family farms should be excluded from inheritance taxes as well.
My top priorities are investing in our people and our economy. Public education is the foundation of this country. Equal access to quality education leads to high paying jobs and increased resources. Investing in infrastructure creates jobs and safer roads for traffic and business transportation. This would be accomplished with raising the excise tax slightly on fuel. Renewable energy is our future and a high priority. It offers high paying jobs requiring high skill levels. I would fund this by continuing to give tax subsidies to incentivize companies to invest in these sources.
